Brice Mathey is the conceiver of the Love-Shack concept. They’re impossible to define, but think Hobbit houses, rock ‘n’ roll and ecological living. Put those in a blender, add a dollop of silliness and there you have it. Love-Shack cottages.  We joined Brice to build the 4th iteration. Watch us dig positive energy into the earth, while putting Brice’s most important lesson into practise: Above all, sustainability should be FUN!  Find the Love-Shacks on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/LoveShack777/

Off-grid in Portugal: At Mount of Oaks we meet sustainability, simplicity and slowing down

2019-01-31T09:04:28+00:00

We were tired and in need of rest when Mount of Oaks came on our path. This intentional community is all about slowing down, simplicity and sustainability. The right place in the right time for us! Their residents believe that living simpler will yield more happiness. Yes, it may be less comfortable, but that trade-off is worth it. We talk to Emma Cowan about the ideals behind this place and Barbara da Nova Leite Cowan shows us the natural buildings: made with straw bales, cob, wattle-and-daub and empty beer bottles…! Check out Mount of Oaks here! [...]

Constructing and living together in an Earth House neighbourhood

2018-07-28T08:33:18+00:00

It's like...we're walking in a Hobbit landscape! This Dutch neighbourhood consists of 23 "Aardehuizen" (based on Michael Reynolds 'Earth ship' model). We meet residents and talk about their process of constructing and living together in this magical neighbourhood! We learn how they've build with tires, cob, strawbales and of course earth. How decisions are made with sociocracy. Which weed is edible and how the composttoilets are used. So much inspiration! Visit the website of Stichting Aardehuizen in Olst (Earth Houses, Olst) for more information: http://www.aardehuis.nl/en Or their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/Aardehuis
